Ever since discovering Guns n Roses and Star Wars at a very early age I have been obsessed with both music and film, or as an ‘90s kid it could have been Michael J Fox playing Johnny B Goode in Back to the Future!   My teens were spent studying film, media and photography while attending every underground punk show I could find, hanging in the DIY punk scene in back rooms of pubs, small venues and squats which inspired me to start filming short documentaries about the local bands.

This led to studying for a degree in film production at L.C.C. (University of the Arts, London) while gigging with my own band, Moral Dilemma.  Post graduation I faced with the decision  – music or film??  For me, choosing between them was like picking a favourite child.  Music won, and I spent the next decade making records and touring the UK and Europe with Moral Dilemma.

During this time my passion for film never faded and I always managed to keep one foot in the world of visual arts – making documentaries, a music video here, a corporate event there, and when the band eventually took its final bow I dived straight back into film making. Using the tools and insane work ethic I had gained from the DIY music scene (i.e doing whatever it takes to get the job done under often ludicrous circumstances, and a good knowledge of online marketing )  I became a one man crew, producing, shooting, directing and editing music videos and live performances for independent bands with a ton of talent and not much budget.

My experience as a musician has greatly influenced and informed my film making.  I have the advantage of the insight as to how bands operate as well as an understanding of music production, song writing and a sense of rhythm that only a seasoned musician would possess which when applied to editing greatly enhances the viewing experience.  On screen this translates into a slick production where the video harmonises with the music, but the music and narrative always take centre stage.

Whereas music is one of my first loves, I have also created a wide range of different content, including documentaries, on-line promotional content and live multi-camera music performances. I have found that that creating these types of videos has greatly enhanced my overall skillset giving me a greater understanding of narrative storytelling, how to market a product effectively, and how to get original shots of live performances that greatly enhance the viewers’ experience
